Incident in the Sverdlovsky District

In Krasnoyarsk, police shot dead a bear that had wandered into a residential area and began approaching people. This was reported by the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for Krasnoyarsk Krai; the incident was also covered by Gazeta.Ru.

How the events unfolded

At night, police duty unit No. 6 received a call from Kolkhoznaya Street in the Sverdlovsky District: witnesses reported that a large animal was roaming the residential neighborhood, growling loudly and nearly killing a yard dog. The responding patrol found the bear near private houses on 2nd Borovaya Street. According to the police, the animal behaved aggressively and moved toward the officers and nearby civilians. One of the officers used a firearm «in accordance with the Federal Law 'On the Police'», and the bear was neutralized. No one nearby was harmed.

Context: increasingly frequent bear appearances

This is not the first such incident in the region. Due to the increasing appearances of predators in the city, a heightened state of readiness had previously been introduced for emergency services. According to regional authorities cited by Life.ru, nine people died from brown bear attacks in Krasnoyarsk Krai in 2026; law enforcement agencies are investigating the circumstances of the previous attacks. It was also previously reported that a police officer shot dead a bear that had entered the front garden of a private house in the village of Pirovskoye and, according to the department, posed an immediate threat to residents.

Other bear incidents

Similar incidents have been recorded in other regions as well. In Buryatia, a large emaciated bear made its way into a village woman's yard: the woman went out to feed her dogs and discovered the predator; men came to her aid and killed the animal on the spot. In Bashkiria, according to press reports, a dog saved tourists from a bear, but was seriously injured itself.
