The party's plans for a trilateral summit
The German party Alternative for Germany (AfD) intends to organize a trilateral summit in spring 2027 involving Germany, Russia and the United States — without Ukraine. This is reported by Le Monde, citing Markus Frohnmaier, deputy chairman of the AfD parliamentary group in the Bundestag; Gazeta.Ru summarized the French outlet's publication.
Moscow's participation and the agenda
According to Le Monde, Moscow has already confirmed its participation in the summit through the Russian president's special envoy, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund Kirill Dmitriev. Frohnmaier noted that Dmitriev is also coordinating the summit with the American side. According to the AfD representative, the summit will provide an opportunity to discuss economic and energy partnership, as well as the situation with the Nord Stream pipelines. 'Resuming the operation of the Nord Stream pipeline as a key element of Germany's energy sovereignty is a top priority,' Frohnmaier said.
Context of the AfD's position on Ukraine
The statement about the summit fits into the party's recent line on the Ukrainian issue. Bundestag deputy from the AfD Steffen Kotré stated that the party opposes transferring Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine, and in early November the foreign policy wing of the AfD parliamentary group demanded a complete halt to military aid to Ukraine. Gazeta.Ru also cited earlier data indicating that part of the German public supports reducing military support for KyivNotably, the summit initiative comes from an opposition party rather than the current German government: it remains unclear whether it will receive official backing in Berlin and Washington — sources do not report on this.
