The key facts
- The US, Armenia and Azerbaijan have launched working groups on transport and electricity under the TRIPP project
- The corridor will pass through Armenia's Syunik region, linking Azerbaijan with Nakhchivan
- Armenia previously announced restrictions: no weapons, ammunition or hazardous chemicals
The first two groups have begun work
The United States, Armenia and Azerbaijan have launched the first two working groups under the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) project — they will deal with transport and electricity transmission. The work is being carried out in a trilateral format on the basis of a joint statement by the governments, reports Life.ru. The groups include government representatives and technical specialists from the three countries; their task is to determine how to connect the future corridor to other infrastructure in the region. The statement contains no timeline for the start of construction.
What is known about the project and its restrictions
The corridor is to pass through Armenia's Syunik region and link the main territory of Azerbaijan with the Nakhchivan autonomy. The foundation of the project was laid in August 2025 at a meeting between Nikol Pashinyan and Ilham Aliyev with Donald Trump in Washington, and in June 2026 the US and Armenia signed a framework agreement: Marco Rubio on June 1 in Washington, Ararat Mirzoyan on June 4 in Yerevan.
Restrictions on cargo
In October Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan explainedwhich goods Yerevan intends to restrict on the new route: according to him, weapons, ammunition and hazardous chemicals will not be allowed to be transported through the corridor, and certain categories of goods will require prior permission. Thus, the launch of the working groups marks a transition from framework agreements to the elaboration of specific technical areas — transport and energy — however, the parties have not yet announced any timelines for implementation or the start of construction.
