Starting September 1, 2027, Russian colleges and technical schools will begin using unified state textbooks in six subjects: Russian language, literature, social studies, chemistry, physics, and biology. Education Minister Sergei Kravtsov announced this in a conversation with TASS, as cited by Life.ru and Gazeta.Ru. According to the minister, the new textbooks will be introduced simultaneously in all six subjects, with the transition planned for the 2027/2028 academic year.

Context: growth in the number of vocational education students

The decision on unified textbooks comes alongside a notable rise in the popularity of secondary vocational education. Earlier, Kravtsov stated that the number of students at Russian colleges and technical schools has reached four million, an increase of one million compared with 2019; according to him, the figures have returned to the RSFSR level, when vocational institutions also enrolled about four million students. In 2026, 63% of ninth-grade graduates and 12% of eleventh-graders chose secondary vocational education. Gazeta.Ru additionally cites the minister's data showing that the number of applicants to colleges grew from 900,000 to 1.4 million people.

In addition, as Gazeta.Ru notes, State Duma deputy Dmitry Shatunov proposed teaching schoolchildren and students the basics of artificial intelligence, emphasizing that in the vocational education system it would be advisable to combine general AI training with 'practice-oriented sections that take into account the specifics of the profession or specialty being studied.' This proposal remains the deputy's initiative and is not directly connected with the introduction of unified textbooks.
