The key facts

  • Wounded SVO soldier Nikolai, after a leg amputation, was arranged a transfer to the A. A. Vishnevsky Hospital, where an operation has already been performed.
  • The ombudswoman's office organized a trip for his mother Galina Nikolaevna from Sakhalin to Moscow; the meeting with her son coincided with his birthday.
  • The prosthetics issue has been referred to the Russian Ministry of Defense; the office continues to assist in the search for the younger son, Yevgeny, who is missing in action.

A Birthday Reunion

Russia's Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova announced assistance for a severely wounded participant in the special military operation, Life.ru reports. The case concerns Nikolai, a resident of Sakhalin Region, who voluntarily went to the SVO and lost a leg after being wounded. His mother Galina Nikolaevna turned to the ombudswoman: both of her sons went to the SVO zone as volunteers — the younger one, Yevgeny, went missing in action, while the elder was severely wounded.

Treatment and Prosthetics

After the amputation, Nikolai developed serious complications, and the family was unable to arrange the necessary treatment on their own. According to Lantratova, they managed to secure the serviceman's transfer to the A. A. Vishnevsky Hospital, where specialists determined the further course of treatment and have already performed an operation. Regarding prosthetics, the ombudswoman said, an appeal has been sent to the Russian Ministry of Defense; this matter is still being worked on.

The Mother's Trip and Further Assistance

Besides medical care, the family had one more request: Galina Nikolaevna wanted to see her son, but she could not travel from Sakhalin to Moscow herself. Staff of the commissioner's office arranged the trip for her, and on his birthday Nikolai was able to hug his mother. Two children are waiting for the serviceman at home; he is currently continuing his treatment. Lantratova promised to keep assisting with the soldier's recovery and to support his mother in the search for the missing Yevgeny, whose fate remains unknown.

Similar Appeals

Life.ru also recalls a previous similar case: Lantratova helped a father of many children who took part in the SVO return to his family after being wounded. In that case, the serviceman's wife turned to the ombudswoman as his health was deteriorating; after an appeal to the Ministry of Defense, the question of discharging him from service was resolved so that he could receive treatment and stay with his wife and children.
