Three strikes in a single night

A facility of the oil and gas company Naftogaz in central Ukraine was attacked three times overnight, resulting in an explosion and a large-scale fire. This was reported by the acting head of the company's board, Serhiy Fedorenko; his remarks were cited by the enterprise's Telegram channel (Gazeta.Ru also writes, citing it Gazeta.Ru). Life.ru adds, that the equipment was seriously damaged and that the staff managed to evacuate before the situation became dangerous — according to the company, no employees were hurt.

What is known and what remains unknown

Naftogaz confirmed damage to its process equipment: specialists are assessing the scale of the destruction and the possible consequences for the enterprise's operations. The exact location of the affected facility is not being disclosed — it is only known that it is in central Ukraine. Gazeta.Ru notes, however, that some of the country's largest gas fields are located in Poltava Oblast, but does not link the facility to any specific region. This is already the second known such incident recently: Life.ru previously reported a fire at a Naftogaz gas production facility in Kharkiv Oblast, after which the company also announced a suspension of operations at the affected enterprise.

Context of the overnight attack

The incident occurred against the backdrop of a massive overnight attack on Ukrainian energy facilities. According to local authorities, Kyiv experienced disruptions to electricity, water supply and heating. The capital's mayor, Vitali Klitschko, reported damage to the Northern Bridge, with traffic temporarily closed in both directions. The Russian Defense Ministry, as cited by Gazeta.Ru, claimed that the strike on the bridge was carried out by Russian forces because, according to the ministry, it was used to transfer weapons and equipment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The Kyiv city administration, the outlet notes, has once again raised the issue of installing street toilets amid problems with the water supply.
