Sklif professors were brought in to assist with the treatment

People's Artist of the RSFSR Lidia Fedoseeva-Shukshina died on the evening of November 6 at a Moscow hospital at the age of 88. The actress's daughter Olga Shukshina spoke about the details of her final weeks in an interview with KP.ru. According to her, shortly before her mother's death, professors from the Sklifosovsky Research Institute were brought in to assist with the treatment; they approved the doctors' actions and gave additional recommendations.

In City Hospital No. 24 since October 11

The actress had been in Moscow City Hospital No. 24 since October 11. She suffered from numerous chronic illnesses; in her final weeks her condition was assessed as grave due to heart failure, and mechanical ventilation was required. Her condition changed constantly: at times it improved, then deterioration set in again; periodically Lidia Nikolaevna regained consciousness and was more active in the evenings. To ease her breathing, doctors connected special equipment, and her daughter stayed by her side the whole time.

«They really were trying to save my mother»

«So I am very grateful to everyone — they really were trying to save my mother. It's just that there are situations and conditions in which doctors are powerless», Life.ru quotes Olga Shukshina as saying. At some point the actress was given palliative status. Relatives and doctors discussed options for further care, including a transfer to Kommunarka or returning home with a portable ventilator, but this did not happen.
