The key facts
- A trip between the banks of the Dnipro takes up to two hours instead of 20 minutes
- Travel on the Southern Bridge toward the right bank is allowed only in one lane for vehicles up to 10 tons
- The city has power outage schedules in effect, and emergency restrictions may be imposed without warning
Bridge restrictions paralyzed traffic
Residents of Kyiv are facing serious transport problems: the usual 20-minute trip between the banks of the Dnipro can now take up to two hours, with multi-kilometer traffic jams forming on the roads. This is reported by Ukrainian Telegram channels citing a publication by Life.ru. The most difficult situation is on the approaches to the Southern Bridge, where motorists sit in gridlock for hours trying to get from the left bank to the right.
What is the situation with crossing the Dnipro
Traffic restrictions on the crossing remain in place despite the partial reopening of the bridge on October 30. Currently, travel toward the right bank is allowed only in one lane for vehicles weighing up to ten tons; in the opposite direction, the previous restrictions continue to apply. Because of this, motorists have to rework their routes, and public transport is operating with interruptions.
Bad weather and utility outages worsen the situation
Traffic in the city is also complicated by the weather: on November 6, Kyiv was hit by the first snow and hail. At the same time, the city continues to face serious problems with electricity, water, and heating. Power outage schedules are in effect, but due to the difficult situation, energy workers periodically have to impose emergency restrictions — in such cases, residents cannot know in advance when the lights will come back on in their homes.
