Kyiv mayor reports critical power supply situation
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the power supply situation in the Ukrainian capital is extremely difficult. According to him, problems with electricity have disrupted the operation of heating and water supply systems in the city. This was reported by Life.ru.
Russian Defense Ministry reports strikes on energy facilities
Earlier, on November 7, the Russian Defense Ministry announced strikes on facilities of the military-industrial complex, energy sector, and transport infrastructure of Kyiv and the region. According to the ministry, the targeted facilities included the Trypilska thermal power plant with a capacity of 1,800 MW and the Kyivska electrical substation rated at 750 kV.
A warning two days before the strike
Back on November 5, Klitschko had warned of the threat of destruction of the capital's key energy facilities. He noted that even protective structures do not guarantee the safety of infrastructure during massive strikes. According to the same outlet, the mayor also explained why a backup scheme with generators cannot replace the power grid: generators will not be able to power all of Kyiv.
Conflict between the central government and the city leadership
Against the backdrop of utility problems, a conflict has escalated among the Ukrainian authorities. Volodymyr Zelensky accused the Kyiv leadership of insufficient preparation for the heating season. Klitschko, in response, spoke of pressure from the central government and attempts to remove him from office. Thus, the energy crisis in the capital is accompanied by a public confrontation between the presidential office and the city leadership: each side blames the other for the failure to prepare for winter.
