Where the lakes will appear
Work is underway in Tashkent to create artificial lakes — the goal of the project, according to the Ecological Committee,, is to improve ambient air quality, improve the environmental situation and create a comfortable microclimate for residents. The work is being carried out in eight mahallas across six districts of the city: Beshyogoch in Chilanzar, Honobodtepa and Kumarik in Sergeli, Bogiboston in Yunusabad, Yuksalish in Mirzo Ulugbek (Mirabad), Ipakchilik in Shaykhantahur, Korgontepa in Uchtepa and Zamondash in Olmazor district.
What the project provides for
In addition to the reservoirs themselves, the project envisages increasing the area of water bodies and green zones in the city, reducing dust levels and developing environmental infrastructure. According to the committee, the creation of the lakes should raise the share of water and greenery in urban areas, improve the local microclimate and make the environmental situation more comfortable for residents. Details of the project — the completion timeline, funding volumes and sources of funds — are not disclosed in the publication.
