Restrictions on the M-5 Ural highway

In the Chelyabinsk region, due to heavy snowfall and black ice, the movement of trucks and passenger buses along the federal M-5 Ural highway has been restricted. This was reported by FKU Uralupravtodor. The ban is in effect on the section from the border with Bashkortostan to Miass, spanning 232 kilometers, and applies to heavy goods vehicles, suburban and intercity buses, as well as minibuses.

How the ban expanded

Initially, restrictions were introduced on the stretch from the 1609th to the 1780th kilometer, which passes through the Katav-Ivanovsky, Satkinsky, Zlatoustovsky and Miassky districts. Later, the section closed to certain types of transport was extended to the 1548th kilometer — meaning the restricted zone grew by more than 60 kilometers, indicating a deterioration in conditions over the course of the day.

Neighboring Bashkortostan and the weather

A difficult road situation also developed in Bashkortostan: there, the movement of freight and passenger transport was restricted on the M-5 section from the 1281st to the 1360th kilometer, through the Tuymazinsky and Buzdyaksky districts. The cause was also snow, black ice and reduced visibility.

Forecast and recommendations for drivers

According to the regional branch of the Emergency Ministry (EMERCOM), heavy precipitation and wind gusts of up to 25 meters per second are expected in the Chelyabinsk region. Snow has fallen in mountainous areas, and road services are treating the pavement with anti-icing materials. The restrictions will remain in effect until weather conditions improve; drivers are urged to plan their routes in advance, keep a safe distance and avoid driving vehicles with summer tires.

Consequences of the storm in Chelyabinsk

The bad weather has already caused damage in Chelyabinsk itself: according to Life.ru, gusty winds knocked down trees and damaged cars. On Ovchinnikova Street, part of a wooden canopy from the metrotram construction site fell onto a passing car; the driver was not injured. The wind also felled a spruce tree on Revolution Square and a stele at the entrance to the Traktorozavodsky district.
