Incidents in several cities

On Friday, incidents were reported in several French cities amid protests by high school students, Anadolu reports, citing local media. In Pau, at least two students were detained in the morning inside the Saint-John-Perse lycée — following clashes the previous day, when several police officers were injured by firework mortar blasts. The prefecture of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department separately reported four detentions in Pau itself and seven across the department, as well as seven police officers injured during operations.

Lyon and Nancy

In Lyon, garbage bins and electric scooters were set on fire at the entrance to the Édouard Herriot lycée; the fire damaged the entrance and the facade of the building. Students were evacuated, and there were no injuries. In Nancy, a man attacked the lycée's principal with a fire extinguisher — right at the entrance to the school.

Scale of the movement

The student mobilization has been spreading across France for several weeks: demonstrators are blockading schools, demanding attention to the conditions and resources of education. Friday's incidents came against the backdrop of a nationwide day of action on November 5, when, according to the French Interior Ministry, 575,000 people took part in 193 public actions across the country, including 65,000 in Paris.
