Prosecutor's Resignation
US Attorney for the Southern District of Florida Jason Reding Quiñones has resigned, Attorney General Todd Blanche announced on Friday, Anadolu reports. This is the second departure of a senior Justice Department official after Republicans lost the midterm elections.
Context and the Investigation
Quiñones's office oversaw a sweeping investigation into Trump, including a review of the president's campaign and the 2016 elections. Blanche thanked Quiñones for his work combating violent crime, drug trafficking, human trafficking and transnational crime, including the indictment of former Cuban president Raúl Castro. Earlier, on Thursday, Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon, who headed the Civil Rights Division, left the Justice Department — she was the first senior official at the department to depart after the midterm elections.
