The key facts

  • On November 5, Ivanovka hosted a review of RSChS forces' readiness with about 100 participants and Governor Yevgeny Solntsev in attendance
  • The red carpet to the outdoor toilets was explained by rain and approaches that had not been improved in time
  • The carpet was not purchased specially; a concrete path is planned for May

The carpet was because of the rain, not because of the governor

In Orenburg Region, ahead of Governor Yevgeny Solntsev's visit, a red carpet was laid out to an outdoor toilet — locals noticed the unusual improvement, after which rural authorities had to offer explanations. As Denis Ovsyannikov, head of the Ivanovo rural council, told the Podyom outlet, it was a matter of bad weather and care for guests.

What happened in Ivanovka

According to Ovsyannikov, on November 5 Ivanovka hosted the annual review of the readiness of the Unified State System for Emergency Prevention and Response (RSChS) for the autumn-winter period. About 100 people took part in the event, and this year the governor personally attended the inspection. The outdoor toilets had been installed on the site back in September, but the approaches to them were not improved before the cold weather set in, and it was pouring rain on the day of the review. So that participants would not have to walk through the mud, the organizers laid out a carpet. The head of the rural council assured that its appearance was not connected with the governor's visit: «We always welcome guests warmly and do everything for the comfort of residents and guests».

Expenses and plans

Ovsyannikov also refuted suggestions of improper spending of budget funds: the carpet was not purchased specially, it had been used before, so this improvement cost the rural treasury nothing. The temporary solution is promised to be replaced with a permanent one — in May, a concrete path is planned to be laid to the outdoor toilets.
