Moscow allocates 651 billion rubles for the urban environment through 2029
A total of 651 billion rubles will be allocated for the development of Moscow's urban environment in 2027–2029, of which 208.7 billion is earmarked for 2027. This was announced by the capital's mayor Sergei Sobyanin, as reported by Life.ru. The funds will be used to renew streets, public spaces and the city's engineering infrastructure.
What exactly is planned to be renewed
According to the mayor, the changes are intended to make the capital more convenient for residents, more attractive for tourists and more comfortable for doing business. The street renewal program will cover both historically established districts and outlying areas that joined the city later; special attention is planned for the safety of pedestrians and drivers. Significant public spaces and outbound highways will be transformed, and the replacement of outdated street lighting with energy-efficient LED fixtures will continue.
Greening and residential neighborhoods
A separate focus is greening: the authorities plan to renew existing green spaces, restore natural areas and improve bodies of water, which, by design, will improve the environmental situation and create additional waterfront recreation spots. Urban environment development will also affect residential neighborhoods: in modern districts, infrastructure will continue to be built so that services are available close to home. The needs of people with disabilities and residents with limited mobility are taken into account in planning — conditions for unimpeded movement will continue to be created in public places, courtyards and on roads.
Engineering infrastructure
Part of the funds will go toward developing the utility networks that supply the city with electricity, heat, water and gas. New networks are planned to be laid primarily in areas of comprehensive residential development, including the Troitsky and Novomoskovsky administrative okrugs. Construction of underground cable and utility collectors that protect networks from external impacts will continue, as will the reconstruction of gas pipelines, water supply networks, sewage systems and treatment facilities — the upgrades are expected to improve the reliability of these systems and reduce the risk of accidents.
