The key facts
- Journalist Ksenia Sobchak is banned from opening a new business in Russia until the end of October 2029
- The reason is unreliable information in the EGRUL entered by Shi LLC
- She still has four companies: two advertising and two restaurant businesses
Restriction from the tax service
Journalist Ksenia Sobchak has been banned from registering a new business in Russia until the end of October 2029. RIA Novosti reported this citing data from the Federal Tax Service; the ban was also reported by Gazeta.Ru. The restriction was imposed at the end of October 2026.
The reason and current assets
The trigger was unreliable information that Sobchak's company Shi LLC entered in the Unified State Register of Legal Entities (EGRUL) about the person authorized to act on behalf of the company without a power of attorney. Under Russian law, the tax service may refuse to register a new business if its owner or head previously held a controlling stake in, or headed, a company flagged with unreliable information. Despite the ban, Sobchak still has four active companies: two in the advertising agency sector and two in the restaurant business.
What happened earlier
In March 2026, kp.ru reported that Sobchak had exited the restaurant business of the Flying Dutchman in Saint Petersburg; no reason was given. According to the outlet, the company's revenue for 2024 amounted to 23 million rubles, with a net profit of 764 thousand rubles. It was also previously reported that Sobchak's company suffered losses.
