October's historic high
Sales of new electric vehicles in Russia reached an all-time record in October: 4,030 cars were sold, compared with 1,614 units in October last year — a 2.5-fold increase. Sergey Tselikov, director of Autostat, announced this on his Telegram channel, and Gazeta.Ru cites his data Gazeta.Ru.
Market share has been growing for several months in a row
The sharp surge in demand was also reflected in the share of 'green' cars: in October they accounted for 3% of all new passenger car sales in the country. According to Tselikov, the popularity of electric vehicles is growing month by month: in the first half of the year they made up only 0.6% of the market, in July — 1.3%, in August — 1.9%, and in September — 2.6%. Thus, the October figure was three times higher than the level at the beginning of the year.
The most popular models
October's leader was the Changan Qiyuan Q05 with 1,085 cars sold. Second place went to the Toyota BZ3X with 983 units, and third to the Evolute I-Joy, chosen by 593 buyers. The top five is rounded out by the UMO 5 (395 units) and the Avatr 11 (95 units).
Context
The growth in electric vehicle sales is taking place against the backdrop of the overall dynamics of the car market: Gazeta.Ru previously reported a record decline in new car sales in Russia. Against this backdrop, the share of electric cars, on the contrary, is showing steady growth, although their absolute volumes still remain a small part of the market.
