Unprecedented vote in the National Assembly
On November 4, deputies of the French National Assembly unanimously rejected the first part of the draft state budget for 2027 — the section on treasury revenues. 458 parliamentarians voted against, and not a single vote was cast in support. This automatically ended consideration of the bill at first reading. This is reported by Life.ru.
Why the document satisfied no one
The reason for the unusual unanimity was the numerous amendments introduced during parliamentary debates: the text changed substantially and ceased to satisfy virtually all political forces, including supporters of the government. Deputies argued over tax policy, ways to reduce the budget deficit, and the distribution of spending. Sébastien Lecornu's government failed to secure the support of either the opposition or the presidential majority.
Le Pen's reaction and the further procedure
Leader of the National Rally faction Marine Le Pen called the end of Emmanuel Macron's presidency 'rather pathetic,' noting that not a single deputy voted for the budget, not even from his own camp: 'Emmanuel Macron, it seems, has broken all possible records — including for rejecting a budget,' the outlet quotes her as saying. At the same time, a final rejection of the 2027 budget has not yet occurred: the original government version will be considered by the Senate, and the country's authorities intend to find a way to agree on the financial document before the end of the year.
