The performance in Shenzhen and the discrepancy between media outlets
2022 Olympic silver medalist Alexandra Ignatova (née Trusova) performed her short program at the third stage of the ISU Grand Prix in Shenzhen, China, and received 72.37 points from the judges. In her performance she executed a double Axel, a triple loop, and a triple Lutz–triple toe loop combination; she competes in a neutral status. Media outlets assessed her standing differently: Gazeta.Ru called the figure skater the interim leader of the competition, whereas Life.ru reported that she took third place — ahead of her were Japan's Mone Chiba (76.08 points) and Anastasia Gubanova, who competes for Georgia (75.05 points). According to Life.ru, the gap to second place is 2.68 points, and 3.71 points to the leader. Gazeta ran a live text broadcast of the performances.
How Trusova got onto the stage and what comes next
The path to the stage in China for the Russian skater was opened by a Challenger Series event — the Denis Ten Memorial in Almaty, where on October 10 she won with a total of 226.01 points across two programs; this allowed her to become first in the list of substitutes and receive an invitation. At the Memorial, according to Life.ru, she won the short program with a score of 77.39 points, setting a new season best. The battle for medals in Shenzhen will continue on November 7, when the competitors will present their free programs. Earlier, on September 20, Trusova showed her free program set to music from the series Stranger Things at the Russian national team test skates, performing, among other elements, a quadruple Lutz.
