The key facts
- Petrosyan received a spot at Skate America after Nina Pinzarrone's withdrawal
- Alexandra Trusova is also entered for the tournament in the USA
- Petrosyan is also included in the entry list for the final Grand Prix stage in Tokyo on November 27–29
A spot in the lineup opens after a rival's withdrawal
Three-time Russian figure skating champion, 19-year-old Adelia Petrosyan, has been included in the field for the American leg of the ISU Grand Prix series — her name appeared in the updated Skate America entry list on the website of the International Skating Union, Life.ru reports. The tournament will take place from November 13 to 15 in Everett, Washington.
How the opportunity to compete came about
The vacated spot appeared after Belgian skater Nina Pinzarrone withdrew from the entry list — her withdrawal became known on November 2. Petrosyan was in line for the spot thanks to her result at the international Trialeti Trophy tournament in Batumi: in early October she took silver there with a total of 204.16 points and moved up the Grand Prix series' alternate list.
Two Russian skaters in the women's event
Another Russian figure skater is also entered for the American leg — 2022 Olympic silver medalist Alexandra Ignatova (Trusova), so two representatives of Russia may compete in the women's singles event. For Petrosyan, this start could be her first at a top-level ISU series event since the 2026 Olympics in Italy, where she finished sixth.
Tokyo and participation conditions
In addition, Petrosyan has already been included in the entry list for the final Grand Prix stage in Tokyo, which will be held from November 27 to 29; the invitation to that tournament was confirmed by the Russian federation back on October 22, and the general secretary of the Figure Skating Federation of Russia, Alexander Kogan, confirmed the athlete's participation. Russian figure skaters compete under ISU auspices in a neutral status, without national symbols. However, inclusion in the entry list does not yet guarantee taking the ice: final participation depends on meeting organizational requirements, including obtaining documents for entry into the country.
