Traffic on the Crimean Bridge temporarily suspended

Bridge closed without explanation

Vehicle traffic on the Crimean Bridge has been temporarily suspended. This was reported by the information center monitoring the situation on the road approaches to the bridge in its Telegram channel; the reason for the measure was not stated in the announcement. Those on the bridge and in the inspection zone were asked to remain calm and follow the instructions of transport security officers.

Context of summer security reports

The traffic closure comes against the backdrop of previously published information about the security of the structure. On July 16, Russia's FSB reported that it had, according to its data, prevented two attempted terrorist attacks on the bridge, the preparation of which was carried out by Ukrainian intelligence services: the suspects were found to have large quantities of Finnish-made explosives delivered to Russia by fixed-wing drones; a minibus was to be used for the alleged sabotage, its interior completely lined with Peno plastic explosive, and explosives were also poured into the battery of a second vehicle. No publications confirm any connection between that July report and the current traffic closure — the reason for today's measure remains unknown.
