The key facts
- Peskov called the link between the deal's terms and the US elections untenable
- The Kremlin refused to comment on reports of tankers with diesel for the American market changing course
- Commercial details of the deal, according to Peskov, cannot be public
Kremlin commentary
Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov commented on media reports about tankers that allegedly changed course while carrying Russian diesel fuel to the United States. According to him, the terms of the diesel deal should not be linked to the results of the US midterm elections. “There should be no connection with the elections seen here. That is unambiguous,” Life.ru quotes him as saying.
Refusal to discuss the tankers' route
Separately, Peskov refused to discuss reports that tankers had changed course with Russian diesel fuel intended for the American market. According to him, commercial details cannot be made public. Thus, the Kremlin confirmed the very fact of the deal under discussion, but left unanswered questions about delivery routes and whether the terms changed after the elections — this information remains officially unconfirmed.
