The key facts
- Meta confirmed the acquisition of the AI startup Conductor, first reported by Axios
- Conductor's cloud service goes offline on November 20, after which deletion of user data will begin
- Founder Charlie Holtz announced 'something new' for customers by the beginning of next year
Meta has acquired Conductor
Meta has acquired the AI startup Conductor, whose platform allows deploying multiple agents in parallel workspaces to work on software projects. Axios was the first to report the deal, and the startup itself announced it on its blog. Meta confirmed the acquisition to TechCrunch but declined to comment further or share deal details.
What is known about the company and its plans
Conductor was founded in 2024 and launched its main product only last summer. The platform creates 'agent teams' that work in the cloud, locally, or through the user's phone: they help engineers simultaneously manage separate, isolated parts of a project. The agents themselves are not developed in-house but are taken from major labs such as Anthropic and OpenAI.
What will change for users
Conductor founder and CEO Charlie Holtz wrote that the company is joining Meta and that it has 'big, crazy plans for the next interface,' promising customers 'something new' by the beginning of next year. Until then, Conductor's core features will continue to work as before. The exception is the cloud service: it will shut down on November 20, after which the company will begin deleting users' cloud data. On X, Holtz also noted that he is glad to work with Meta's chief AI officer Alexandr Wang and Superintelligence Labs product head Nat Friedman, calling MSL the lab with the 'highest density of talent.'
The deal in the context of Meta's AI strategy
The acquisition fits Meta's recent line in the AI market: according to TechCrunch, the company, which previously lagged behind in AI services, has been trying to catch up with competitors in recent months. In August, it released its own agent for working with large codebases, Muse Code, and its Muse agents, according to a recent company announcement, have gained more than 10 million users. Over the past year, Meta has made a series of AI acquisitions, including the viral platform Moltbook. Within this series, Conductor strengthens the agentic coding direction — the very area where Meta is already developing its own products.
