Shelling near Beit Jinn
The Israeli army on Thursday fired two artillery shells at the outskirts of the village of Beit Jinn southwest of Damascus, the Syrian outlet Alikhbariah TV reported. According to the channel's correspondent, the shells landed on farmland on the edge of the village. The report does not mention any casualties or damage.
Second shelling in two days
This is not an isolated incident: the day before, on Wednesday, according to the same channel, Israeli forces fired three artillery shells at the outskirts of the Al-Mantara dam area in the central province of Quneitra. Thus, over two days, shelling has been recorded in two different areas of southern Syria, although the report contains no confirmation from the Israeli side or independent sources.
Context: presence in the buffer zone
Alikhbariah recalls that after the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime in December 2024, Israel expanded its military presence in the buffer zone between Syria and the occupied Golan Heights and advanced into areas of southern Syria, despite the 1974 disengagement agreement. Damascus has repeatedly demanded the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Syrian territory, calling such actions a violation of the country's sovereignty and of the disengagement agreement.
