The key facts
- The Israeli army continued operations and shelling in southern Lebanon on November 7, despite the June framework agreement with US mediation
- Lebanon's health ministry: from March 2 to November 5, 4,390 people were killed and 12,429 wounded
- The agreement provides for Israel's phased withdrawal in exchange for the deployment of the Lebanese army
Strikes continue after the June agreement
The Israeli army continued attacks on southern Lebanon on Saturday, even though a framework agreement was reached between Lebanon and Israel in June with US mediation. According to the state-run National News Agency of Lebanon (NNA), the army carried out a 'demolition operation' in Bani Hayyan without giving details, as well as search operations in Khiyam in the Marjeyoun district; artillery shelled the surroundings of Wadi al-Hujayr in the Jabal Amel region.
Shelling in several areas
According to NNA, intermittent artillery fire targeted the surroundings of Baraashit in the Bint Jbeil district and Wadi Zibqin overnight. On Friday evening, artillery struck the al-Araish area between the towns of Haris and Hadatha in the same district. In addition, Israeli forces fired heavy machine guns at the surroundings of Mansouri and Beit Sayyad south of Tyre, accompanied by artillery shelling.
Terms of the agreement and casualty figures
The June framework agreement provides for Israel's phased withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territories in exchange for the deployment of the Lebanese army there and the transfer of security responsibilities to it. Nevertheless, as Anadolu notes, Israel continues to hold parts of southern Lebanon — both positions occupied decades ago and areas seized during the 2023–2024 war, when Israeli ground forces advanced roughly 10 kilometres into Lebanese territory.
Toll since March
Lebanon's Ministry of Health reported on Thursday that as of November 5, Israeli attacks since March 2 had killed 4,390 people, with another 12,429 wounded.
