Mass detentions in the West Bank
The Israeli army detained at least 45 Palestinians on Wednesday during raids across the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian Prisoner's Society reported (citing the Anadolu agency). Among those detained are five women and two journalists.
Where and whom were detained
According to the organization, most of the detentions took place in Nablus and Hebron, with the rest in Qalqilya, Tulkarm and Bethlehem. Among those detained is journalist Hazem Nasser, who was detained again just two weeks after his release. In Jenin, soldiers questioned several Palestinians on the spot and then released them.
The organization's statements and overall statistics
The Palestinian Prisoner's Society stated that the detention of women and journalists, as well as the re-arrest of a recently released prisoner, indicate that Israeli forces are targeting broad segments of Palestinian society. The organization also reported regular raids on homes, hours-long detentions of residents, intimidation of families, as well as physical violence, vandalism and harsh conditions during detention and interrogations. According to its count, more than 26,000 detentions have been recorded in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, since the start of Israel's war in the Gaza Strip in October 2023. These figures and assessments belong to the organization; no independent confirmation is provided in the publication.
