The key facts

  • Footage allegedly from Iran's IRINN channel circulated showing a map of strikes on Ukraine and Poland
  • Ukraine's CCD called the image a fake
  • Earlier, Iranian politician Manouchehr Mottaki stated that strikes on US bases in Europe were possible

Footage of a strike map and Kyiv's reaction

Footage has circulated online that is claimed to have been broadcast on Iran's state television channel IRINN. The image shows a map of possible missile strikes on Ukraine and Poland: Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa and the Polish city of Rzeszów are marked, with missiles directed from Iran toward Europe and a conventional explosion symbol placed near Lviv. The frame was accompanied by the caption: 'Our missiles will reach Europe, and we will destroy the American imperialists and their allies.' This is reported by Life.ru.

Fake or not

Ukraine's Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD) called the footage a fake, noting that the original broadcast showed a different image. Thus, the question of whether the map actually appeared on IRINN remains disputed: the circulating version contradicts the CCD's assessment, and there is no independent confirmation of the frame's authenticity in available publications.

Context: Tehran's statements about Europe

The appearance of the map coincides thematically with earlier statements from the Iranian side. According to Life.ru, former Iranian Foreign Minister and member of parliament Manouchehr Mottaki stated that Tehran does not intend to limit its retaliatory actions to the Middle East if the US resumes attacks on Iran: according to him, facilities in European countries that provide infrastructure to the American military could come under attack. He named the United Kingdom, Italy, Portugal and Germany among such states. However, the circulated map specifically mentions Ukrainian and Polish cities, which were not in Mottaki's list — another reason to treat the image with caution.
