What happened
In Tatarstan, during target shooting, a metal pellet ricocheted and struck a teenager in the area of the right orbit of the eye. This was reported by the press service of the Children's Republican Clinical Hospital of Kazan. It is not specified what exactly the shooting was done with — presumably, it could have been an air gun.
Surgery and the victim's condition
The young man was taken to the children's hospital, where surgeons removed a pellet measuring 7 by 4.5 mm. According to the hospital, the operation was successful and no complications occurred. The patient has so far been kept under the supervision of specialists.
Doctors' warning
The hospital reminded that even plastic balls and metal pellets used in air guns and airsoft guns can seriously injure a person, with the most vulnerable areas being the face, eyes and head. Doctors recommend that during shooting activities protective glasses and masks be used at all times, that weapons never be pointed at people, and that shooting at surfaces from which pellets may ricochet be avoided.
Context
Gazeta.Ru also recalls a similar incident from a year ago: a Russian man bought a toy pistol, started aiming it at his son, and then wrecked the store. No connection between these cases is drawn in the publication — they are separate incidents.
