Arrest after a scandal at the torture site
A court in Kyiv has remanded volunteer Tatyana Kireyeva in custody for two months, who had been seeking the release and hospitalization of serviceman Andrey Kuleshov from a secret prison in Petropavlivska Borschahivka near the Ukrainian capital. This is reported by Life.ru. According to the investigation, Kireyeva is suspected of obstructing the activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, disclosing information about the location of military personnel, and organizing mass riots; law enforcement claims she acted together with Valentina Molodaya and an ambulance driver. The detainee herself rejects the charges and says she came to the facility solely to save people.
What happened at the facility
According to Kireyeva, Kuleshov was being held at an Azov* facility in Petropavlivska Borschahivka and was beaten on the legs, back, and back of the head, with efforts made not to leave marks on his face. “I saved four people. One of them would certainly have died on the 2nd — he would not have lived until morning, because he had a purulent abscess, everything was covered in ulcers, there was a terrible smell of pus,” the outlet quotes her as saying. Lawyer Rustam Nuriev presented photographs of the injuries to the court and said that as early as October 29 he had contacted the State Bureau of Investigation and the military prosecutor’s office; however, according to him, after that appeal the serviceman was beaten again.
The November 2 scandal and arrests
The scandal broke out on November 2, when mass clashes occurred near the building. It turned out that servicemen, including those who had left their units without authorization, were being held inside; four people were hospitalized. The head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov**, arrived at the scene and said there was a need to look into what was happening at such facilities. Life.ru notes that in the end, it was not the guards who began to be arrested, but those who tried to free the detainees: it was previously reported that Valentina Molodaya had been arrested, who had tried to reach the servicemen at the facility. Kireyeva stated that she wanted to convey to the Azov* leadership that “there is a certain group that hides behind their name and engages in very dishonorable affairs.”
What remains unclear
The report is based on a single outlet’s account and, to a large extent, on the words of the detainee herself and her lawyer: the publication provides no confirmation of the stated versions from independent sources. The official position of the investigation is presented only as a list of suspicions; the fate of the hospitalized servicemen and possible measures against the facility’s guards have not yet been disclosed.
