Sentence in a concealment-of-death case
In the state of Georgia, 35-year-old Jason Campbell has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for concealing the death of his 65-year-old mother, Mary Campbell. This was reported by the outlet Now Georgia; Gazeta.Ru also cites it. The judge imposed the maximum penalty under the concealment-of-death statute, while no murder charge was brought against the son, and the woman's cause of death was not officially named. The jurors, having found the man guilty, noted that he concealed the fact of her death and prevented investigators from determining whether she had been killed.
How the case unfolded
Mary Campbell lived with her son and went missing on January 6, 2025. Her car, bag, documents and phone remained in the house, prompting relatives and friends to launch an urgent search. Two days later, Jason told police that an unknown person had allegedly taken his mother from the house, and the day before he had called 911 claiming she had been 'abducted by aliens.' It was this statement that prompted investigators to inspect the property: in the yard they found the woman's charred remains next to a still-smoldering bonfire and a burned mattress. An examination confirmed that the remains belonged to Mary Campbell.
The family's past
In connection with this case, Gazeta.Ru recalls its earlier report: Mary Campbell had previously cut her husband's body in half and kept it for 15 years in a freezer. Thus, the family had already had one instance of concealing a death, but the sources do not draw conclusions about any connection between these episodes.
