Demonstrations in several cities
Students held demonstrations in Athens, Thessaloniki and other Greek cities on Thursday, protesting against conditions in public education and the rising cost of living, Anadolu reports, citing the 902.gr portal. Students and graduates gathered at Propylaea in central Athens with banners demanding increased funding for public education, improved school infrastructure and free education.
Demands and symbolic actions
The demonstrators also insisted on measures to address staff shortages in public schools and to reduce the financial burden of housing and education costs on students and their families. Student associations unfurled a banner outside the finance ministry building, while outside parliament participants left bags of construction waste to draw attention to the condition of school buildings. During the demonstrations, the Panepistimio metro station in central Athens was closed.
