Verdict in the railway arson case
The Southern District Military Court in Crimea has sentenced a local resident to 15 years of imprisonment in a criminal case of terrorism on the railway. This was reported by the Southern Transport Prosecutor's Office, whose statement was cited by Gazeta.Ru.
Circumstances of the case
According to the prosecutor's office, in March of last year the defendant, together with an acquaintance — criminal proceedings against whom were dropped due to his death — set fire to relay cabinets that control traffic signals in the village of Perovo in the Simferopol district, in exchange for a promised monetary reward. The perpetrators sent a video recording of the act to their handler. As a result, the Federal State Unitary Enterprise 'Crimean Railway' suffered damage exceeding 2.4 million rubles.
The sentence imposed
Taking into account the prosecutor's office's position, the court sentenced the man to 15 years of imprisonment: he will spend the first three years in prison and the remainder of the term in a strict-regime penal colony. After release, he will be subject to movement restrictions for a year and a half. Gazeta.Ru also recalls a similar case reported earlier: in Krasnoyarsk Krai, two local residents were convicted of sabotage on the railway.
