Rome court verdict

A court in Rome has sentenced US citizen Francis Kaufmann to life imprisonment for the murder of his partner, 28-year-old Omsk native Anastasia Trofimova, and their 11-month-old daughter Andromeda. This was reported by the Italian agency Adnkronos, which is cited by Life.ru. In addition to the life sentence, the court imposed three years of daytime isolation on Kaufmann — exactly the penalty the prosecution had requested. The defendant did not plead guilty, despite the evidence presented by the investigation.

Circumstances of the case

The bodies of the woman and the child were discovered on June 7, 2025, in Rome's Villa Pamphili park; their identities were established later. According to Gazeta.Ru , citing Reuters, the identities could not be determined at first, until a viewer contacted the police after a report on local television: she said that about three weeks before the incident she had seen a man accompanied by the victims. After the murder, the 46-year-old Kaufmann left Italy; he was detained in Greece — Gazeta.Ru specifies, on the island of Skiathos. During questioning via video link he declared his innocence, and on July 11, 2025, he was extradited to Italy.

What is known about the couple and the police complaints

According to Gazeta.Ru, Kaufmann met the Russian woman while on vacation in Malta in 2023; in 2024 their daughter was born, after which the couple moved to Rome; the man presented himself as a film director and producer. Life.ru, citing its own materials, notes that before her death Trofimova had repeatedly complained to the Italian police about her partner, accusing him of violence, but, according to the outlet, law enforcement did nothing. At the same time, the final verdict on the causes of death and the motives belongs to the court; in the published reports, the details of the sentence are limited to the imposed penalty and the fact that the defendant did not plead guilty.
