Attack near the local administration
On the evening of November 3, in the settlement of Druzhnaya Gorka in the Leningrad Region, a wolf ran into the entrance of a residential building and dragged away a small dog in front of its owner. The attack took place practically in the center of the settlement, not far from the local administration. This was reported by the Telegram channel Mash na Moyke, which is cited by Life.ru.
What was caught on camera
The moment of the attack was captured by a surveillance camera. The footage shows the dog trying to hide in the open entrance, the predator lunging after it, and a few seconds later running back out with the pet in its teeth; a woman rushes after it.
A series of incidents since September
According to local residents, this is not the first time predators have appeared near homes: wolves have been spotted in Druzhnaya Gorka since September, and since then residents have repeatedly reported attacks on pets during walks. On October 10, a wolf chased a woman with a dog right in the courtyard of a residential building — she managed to escape by running into the entrance; this incident was also caught on a surveillance camera.
Official warnings and culling
Mikhail Usachyov, head of the Druzhnogorsk territorial administration, warned residents of the danger and advised being careful after dark, avoiding walks near the forest, and keeping a closer eye on pets. On October 13, the Committee for the Protection of Wildlife of the Leningrad Region reported that over the previous two weeks five wolves had been killed in the Gatchina District, and a decision on additional population control had been made regarding four more animals. Despite these measures, predators continued to appear in populated areas.
Why wolves come to homes
The authority explained that in autumn adult wolves teach the young to hunt, and domestic animals become comparatively easy prey for them. According to the April 2026 census, seven wolves lived in the Gatchina District, but over the summer the predators had offspring — meaning the actual population could have grown noticeably compared to the census figures. Life.ru also previously wrote about the increasing appearance of wolves near residential buildings in the Moscow Region and the Leningrad, Tyumen, and Sverdlovsk Regions; residents were advised not to leave dogs unattended outdoors, especially in the evening and at night.
