What happened
On November 4, a fire broke out in a residential apartment building in the north of Moscow, claiming the lives of two people. According to the Telegram channel “112”, the fire started in an apartment on the 8th floor of a building on Kosmonavta Volkova Street and had been extinguished by the time of the report; the cause of the fire remained unknown at that point. The MK.ru website , citing its sources, provided details: a bed caught fire in a three-room apartment, the room filled with smoke, and the area of the fire was only five square meters.
Why the victims died
Rescuers evacuated two people from the burning apartment; however, according to MK.ru, they suffered fatal carbon monoxide poisoning — resuscitation efforts did not help. Thus, the victims were not people directly caught by the flames: despite the small area of the fire, it was the smoke that proved fatal. The publications contain no official information about the cause of the fire.
A similar case in October
Life.ru recalls a similar tragedy in mid-October: a fire in an apartment on the 13th floor of a residential building in the Olympic Village killed a 90-year-old man and his 87-year-old wife. The couple's bodies were found after the fire was extinguished; the Moscow prosecutor's office confirmed the deaths of two people, organized an inspection, and ordered a fire-technical examination to determine the cause of the fire. The results of that inspection are not given in the new publications.
