The key facts

  • An earthquake of magnitude 2.3 was recorded off the coast of Fujairah on November 4, 2026 at 20:06 at a depth of 5 km
  • This is already the fourth minor tremor in the emirate's area since June 2026
  • According to the classification, tremors up to magnitude 5 are considered weak and pose no risk to residents

Minor tremor off the coast of Fujairah

On the evening of November 4, 2026, an earthquake of magnitude 2.3 on the Richter scale was recorded off the coast of Fujairah, south of Khor Fakkan. The tremor occurred at 20:06 at a depth of 5 km. The UAE National Center of Meteorology (NCM) registered the event through the National Seismic Network, which monitors activity across the entire country, reports The National.

A series of minor tremors since June

This is not an isolated event: on October 16, a tremor of magnitude 1.6 was recorded off the coast of Dibba, on August 18 in the same area — magnitude 3.0, and on June 8 a tremor of magnitude 2.8 occurred in Masafi. Thus, in less than five months, four minor seismic events have already been noted in the emirate's area.

How dangerous is this

According to the accepted classification, tremors of magnitude 5 and above are considered 'strong'; the November and October tremors fall far within the weak category and, as the publication notes, pose virtually no risk to residents or infrastructure. Seismic events within the UAE and Oman itself are relatively rare, although tremors from earthquakes in other parts of the region, primarily Iran, are registered more often. The country is located near several active faults in the Persian Gulf and Indian Ocean zone, so weak seismic activity there is an occasional occurrence rather than a cause of serious concern.
