What happened

On October 31, in Tashkent's Olmazor district on Gulsaroy street, a group of eight people aged 19 to 30 stepped onto the roadway during a wedding celebration, blocked traffic and danced. The incident came to light after a video spread on social media, after which the city police department conducted a review and drew up protocols under Article 183 of the Administrative Code ('Petty hooliganism'), reports Gazeta.uz citing the department. The case was considered by the Olmazor district court on November 3.

Punishment and discrepancy in the data

By the court's decision, the participants were found to have committed petty hooliganism. Here the outlets differ: Kun.uz, which reviewed the court document, reports that one was sentenced to 5 days of administrative arrest and the others to 7 each; Gazeta.uz writes that each of the eight offenders received 7 days of arrest. Both outlets agree that the term of punishment is counted from November 3.

Apologies in court

In court, the detainees expressed remorse. One of the grooms, according to Kun.uz, explained that they 'had a bit of fun, blocking the road' and did not expect such consequences. Another, according to Gazeta.uz, said that at around 4:00 p.m., while leaving the bride's home, he 'gave in to a little joy, to emotions' and blocked the road, adding that he would not advise even 'his own children' to act that way and regrets what happened.
