Head of Ukraine's National Bank Pyshnyy denies resignation reports

Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine Andriy Pyshnyy said he does not intend to resign, posting the corresponding message on his Facebook page (Meta, the company that owns it, has been designated extremist in Russia and banned there). According to him, the question of his dismissal was added to the agenda of the Verkhovna Rada without his knowledge. “I have neither written nor submitted any resignation letter. I continue to perform my duties and do not intend to leave my post under political pressure,” Pyshnyy wrote. Gazeta.Ru reported this.

What preceded the statement

The Ukrainian outlet Delo.ua, citing sources, had earlier written that Pyshnyy had allegedly submitted a resignation letter after searches in his office — “voluntarily, for health reasons.” According to journalists, two mobile phones were seized from the top manager during the search. Thus, the report of the resignation letter itself was based on anonymous sources, and the head of the regulator is now denying it.

Searches and criminal proceedings

On October 21, Verkhovna Rada member Yaroslav Zheleznyak reported that NABU and SAP came to Pyshnyy with searches: law enforcement officers inspected his office. In early October, Zheleznyak said that criminal proceedings had been opened against the head of the National Bank over possible false testimony to the Rada's temporary investigative commission. Earlier, the head of the regulator had also been summoned to the Rada over the situation with Sens Bank. It remains unclear whether the question of his dismissal will actually be considered by parliament: it is only confirmed that it appeared on the agenda — according to Pyshnyy himself, without his knowledge.
