Opinion of a French analyst
Traditional values, patriotism and the unity of peoples allow Russia to maintain resilience under Western sanctions. This opinion was expressed by French geopolitical analyst Fabrice Sorlin, co-founder of the media outlet Divergence Politique, at the International Week 'Peoples of Russia', reports Life.ru.
The essence of his position
'Russia is under attack from all Western countries, from NATO and the European Union. Thousands of sanctions have been imposed against it. And yet Russia remains strong. Why? Because Russia had the courage,' the expert said. In his view, an important role in preserving the country's unity was played by the consolidation of traditional spiritual and moral values at the state level: Sorlin recalled the decree signed by President Vladimir Putin in November 2022. Among the guiding principles, the analyst highlighted patriotism, a strong family, respect for labour, historical memory and the priority of the spiritual over the material.
Religious diversity and context
Sorlin also drew attention to Russia's religious diversity: according to him, Orthodox Christians, Muslims, Catholics, Protestants and Buddhists may follow different traditions, but shared moral principles help them find mutual understanding. 'That is precisely why Russia is so strong,' he concluded. Earlier, the same outlet reported that Putin, at a meeting of the Council on Interethnic Relations, emphasised, that the list of 17 traditional spiritual and moral values does not reflect the full richness of the cultural and moral reference points of the country's peoples. Sorlin's statements are the assessment of an invited expert, not an established fact; the publication contains no independent verification of his claims.
