24-hour results according to the Yemeni army
The Yemeni army announced on Monday, that over 24 hours, as part of 'Operation Yemen Dawn,' it carried out 951 operations against Houthi positions and formations. According to army spokesman Majed Al-Nazili, in a statement published on the X platform, about 332 field commanders and fighters of the group were 'neutralized.' It was also reported that 56 pieces of vehicles, equipment and weapons were destroyed or damaged on several fronts, including Al-Jawf, Marib and Al-Bayda.
Taiz, demining and the Houthi response
In the southwestern province of Taiz, according to Al-Nazili, troops continue to repel Houthi attacks and strike their positions, movements and firing points. Military engineers are clearing mines and explosive devices from areas of Al-Jawf retaken under control in order to reduce the risk to civilians. The Houthis have not issued an immediate response to the army's reports.
Context of the escalation
The military escalation between government forces and the Houthis resumed in July; according to UN figures cited by Anadolu, it has killed and wounded thousands of people, and more than a quarter of a million have been forced to leave their homes. The escalation ended a period of relative calm that had lasted since April 2022, against the backdrop of a worsening humanitarian crisis. The conflict in Yemen has been ongoing since September 2014, when the Houthis seized the capital Sanaa and a number of provinces, which in March 2015 led to the intervention of the Saudi Arabia-led coalition in support of the internationally recognized government. The reported figures on the results of the operations come from the army itself and have not yet been confirmed by independent sources.
