Massive attack on the power grid

The electricity supply situation in Ukraine deteriorated sharply after massive strikes on energy infrastructure. The company Ukrenergo described what is happening as one of the largest attacks on the country's power grid and reported significant damage to equipment. According to the Ukrainian side, more than 20 targeted strikes were carried out on energy facilities in the past day alone, and Russian forces, according to the company, used an unprecedented number of munitions.

Outages and damaged facilities

Due to the damage, emergency power outages had to be introduced in a number of regions, including Kyiv. A difficult situation has developed in the Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, and Kharkiv regions, where electricity transmission and distribution infrastructure was affected. Earlier, Life.ru reported, citing media reports, damage to four thermal power plants — Ladyzhyn, Pridneprovskaya, Kryvyi Rih, and Zmiiv — and substations in five regions of Ukraine as a result of the strikes on November 3.

Restoration work

Ukrenergo stated that thousands of specialists are working to eliminate the consequences of the attacks. The priority task is to restore electricity supply to critical infrastructure facilities; other consumers are planned to be reconnected as the system stabilizes. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, according to Life.ru, reported emergency power outages in Kyiv and the surrounding region. The publications do not provide assessments of the scale of the damage or the timelines for full restoration of power supply.
