Gisin ends career after injury
Two-time Olympic champion in alpine combined Michelle Gisin announced her retirement on Tuesday, AFP reports. The Swiss athlete is 32 years old and has not competed since last December, when she suffered a serious injury during training in Switzerland.
Injury and missing the 2026 Games
The December fall resulted in injuries to her wrist, knee and back, which kept Gisin out of the 2026 Olympic Games in Milan-Cortina. Thus, the retirement announcement came after nearly a year of recovery that did not lead to a return to the slopes.
Career highlights
Gisin won gold in the combined at the 2018 Games, finishing ahead of American Mikaela Shiffrin, and defended her title four years later. She announced her decision on Instagram: “It has been an incredible ride, and today it comes to an end. I have seen it all,” AFP quotes her as saying.
