Defense Ministry statement on a new strike on a vessel
Russia's Armed Forces, according to the Russian Defense Ministry, hit a cargo ship in the Black Sea that was delivering military equipment and dual-use goods to Ukraine. The strike, as stated in the ministry's post on its Telegram channel, was carried out 24 km south of Odesa.
A series of statements over two days
The statement became part of a series of publications by the defense ministry in a short period. On the morning of November 3, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that Russian forces struck two seagoing vessels, carrying military equipment for the Ukrainian army — in the port of Pivdennyi and in the Black Sea; at the same time, according to the ministry, a strike was carried out on the infrastructure of the port of Kiliia. The day before, on November 2, it was claimed that another cargo ship had been hit while underway at sea south of Odesa, delivering cargo for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, along with strikes on port infrastructure used in the interests of the Ukrainian army and on seagoing vessels.
Context and what remains unknown
Gazeta.Ru also recalled in its publication an earlier report of an attack on a strategically important bridge near Odesa. There is no independent confirmation of the Defense Ministry's claims in available materials: information on the number of vessels hit, their ownership, and the consequences of the strikes comes only from the Russian defense ministry. The difference between the November 2 and November 3 reports lies in the details: on November 2 the reference was to a vessel 'underway at sea,' while on November 3 it was to a vessel 24 km from the shore and to vessels in the port of Pivdennyi, indicating a continuation of strikes on maritime logistics in the area of the Odesa coast.
