The key facts
- The second phase of transferring air defense equipment from Fort Bliss to Ovda Airbase began on Tuesday
- A total of 16 C-17 flights are expected, which may indicate a full Patriot battery rather than a minimum package
- The deployment of a full battery has not been officially confirmed
Second phase of air defense equipment transfer
A new wave of US Air Force cargo flights to Israel may indicate preparations for the deployment of an additional Patriot battery, according to open-source fleet-tracking analysis reported by Anadolu. On Tuesday, at least six C-17A Globemaster III transport aircraft carrying air defense equipment were recorded beginning the second phase of a transfer from Biggs Army Airfield at Fort Bliss, Texas, to Ovda Airbase in southern Israel.
The scale of the operation and what it may mean
Last week, eight C-17 flights had already arrived at Ovda. Once the second group completes its flights, the total number of flights on the Biggs–Ovda route will reach 16, according to open sources. Observers assess that such a scale may indicate the transfer of a full Patriot battery rather than a Minimum Essential Package (MEP) — a contingent capable of conducting air and missile defense anywhere in the CENTCOM area of responsibility within a maximum of 96 hours.
Other movements and confirmation status
Flights to Israel continued after new preparations at Biggs Army Airfield: on Monday, another C-17 with the callsign REACH 24 departed for Gander airport in Canada, which, according to observers, was a separate movement and may have indicated preparations for another Patriot system transfer. Tracking also recorded movements across the Middle East and Europe: C-17s that had been stationed at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar since the start of the war flew to Ramstein and Spangdahlem bases in Germany on November 1; another aircraft flew from North Carolina to Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait on Tuesday, from which two aircraft headed to Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Arizona. The removal of equipment from the British base at Fairford is also continuing: two C-17s flew to South Dakota and New Hampshire within 48 hours, and two US Navy flights to Al Minhad Air Base in the UAE were also recorded. At the same time, as Anadolu emphasizes, the deployment of a full Patriot battery has not yet been independently confirmed — the conclusions are based solely on open flight data.
