Yellow weather danger level due to fog

In Moscow and the Moscow region, a yellow weather danger level has been declared from 9:00 pm on November 1 due to expected fog. This was reported by Gazeta.Ru citing TASS and Russia's Hydrometeorological Center. The yellow level signals potentially hazardous weather conditions. According to forecasters, the warning will be lifted on Monday, November 2, at 10:00 am Moscow time.

Context: a cold night and the winter forecast

The fog warning was issued against the backdrop of a noticeable cold snap: the night of November 1 was the coldest in Moscow since the beginning of the current calendar autumn. At the same time, the head of the meteorology and climate department of the Central Administration for Hydrometeorology, Nikolai Tereshonok, warnedthat winter may arrive late this year due to global warming: in his forecast, temperatures in the capital and throughout Central Russia may be above the climate norm of –4 to –6 degrees. He emphasized that this does not mean consistently mild weather for all three months. Thus, the current cold snap and fog fit into the picture of a transitional period that forecasters had previously spoken about — no exact dates for the onset of a stable winter are given in the publications.
