What was approved by the khokim's decree
Khokim of Tashkent Shavkat Umurzakov, by a decree dated October 29, approved a targeted list of works to renovate central streets and organize dedicated bus lanes (BRT) with a total length of 17.9 km. The lanes will appear on four routes: Mukimi street — 4.6 km in the Yakkasaray and Chilanzar districts; Karatash — Kukcha Darvoza streets — 4.2 km in the Shaykhantakhur district; Parkent street — 2.8 km and Mirzo Ulugbek avenue — 6.3 km in the Mirzo Ulugbek district. This was reported by Gazeta.uz, Kun.uz and Spot.uz citing the document.
Who will carry out the works and how they will be funded
JSC Tashkent Invest has been designated as the customer for the repair and construction works. It must select general design and contracting organizations, develop designs for organizing the bus lanes, and obtain the necessary positive approvals. At the initial stage — the customer's expenses and the development of design documentation — 6.5 billion soums will be allocated from the Tashkent City Development Fund. The main financing of construction and repairs is planned through loans from commercial banks and funds from the khokimiyat's sectoral funds: Kun.uz names the Road and Transport Infrastructure Development Fund and the Tashkent City Development Fund. Before repairs begin, utility enterprises must, at their own expense, complete the construction, relocation, and repair of utility networks and manholes on their balance sheet.
What is known about the timeline and traffic during the works
The exact completion date for the works is not specified in the decree — Kun.uz draws attention to this. During construction, city authorities and the Road Traffic Safety Department must prevent congestion and ensure traffic safety; if necessary, they may temporarily restrict vehicle traffic. The khokimiyat had announced plans to organize lanes on these streets back in mid-October, and earlier construction of two BRT lanes with a total length of 2.7 km began in the city — on Amir Temur avenue and Yangi Sergeli street. Thus, the new decree moves four central streets from the announcement stage to an approved targeted list with a designated customer and initial funding.
