An invitation from London and participation at Washington's invitation
Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said that at the G20 leaders' summit, which the United Kingdom will host in 2027 in Manchester, the country will be represented by Prime Minister Donald Tusk. According to him, Warsaw has already received an invitation from London; Polskie Radio reported this. “We are glad that the next country to chair the G20 — the United Kingdom — has already invited the Prime Minister to take part in the summit next year in Manchester,” Life.ru quotes the head of the Polish Foreign Ministry as saying.
Current status and Warsaw's plans
This year, Poland is present in the work of the G20 at the invitation of the United States: on October 30–31, Sikorski represented Warsaw at the meeting of G20 foreign ministers in Atlanta, which the Polish Foreign Ministry confirmed. He also thanked Washington for this opportunity. At the same time, Warsaw hopes not to limit itself to the status of an invited participant: according to Sikorski, the United States supported the idea of permanent membership of the republic in the group. There is no final decision yet — Poland still has to secure the consent of the other participants.
Summit calendar and Russia's position
The next G20 leaders' summit will take place on December 14–15, 2026, in Miami. The British government, according to its official statement, plans to hold the meeting of heads of state in Manchester on November 27–28, 2027. Sikorski also stated that Poland will not boycott the G20 because of Russia. Against Warsaw's permanent participation, according to Life.ru, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov previously spoke out: in his view, Poland does not meet the group's criteria in terms of economic size, and the interests of European states are already widely represented in its composition. Lavrov added that similar objections were voiced in informal conversations by other participants of the meeting in Atlanta.
