Since Halloween fell on a Saturday in 2026, costume parties and street celebrations continued throughout the weekend.
Major incidents
One of the most serious incidents occurred in Dallas, Texas: overnight, three shootings took place in the Deep Ellum entertainment district, leaving four people dead and 15 wounded. Police are investigating whether the incidents were connected. In Fairfield, California, gunfire erupted at a shopping center near a Halloween costume store: a 31-year-old pregnant woman was killed, and six people aged 16 to 43 were wounded; according to preliminary police data, the attack was targeted. In Jacksonville, Florida, two separate incidents claimed the lives of a 17-year-old girl and a 20-year-old man, with 11 people wounded, including a 15-year-old girl; in one case, a conflict broke out among people waiting to enter a celebration.
Other episodes
In Illinois, a shooting near Illinois Wesleyan University claimed the life of a 19-year-old woman, and several people were wounded. Six victims were hospitalized after a shooting near the University of Delaware, while in Kansas four people were taken to the hospital, one of them shot in the face. In Montana, a deputy sheriff was killed in a shootout: officers responded to a call, after which an armed man opened fire on them, and another officer was wounded. A fatal shooting in Chicago, a conflict at a party in Missouri, and attacks in Alabama were also reported. However, as the outlet notes, not all cases were connected to Halloween celebrations: the overall statistics also include domestic disputes and other episodes of gun violence. Law enforcement continues to investigate the incidents and identify suspects.
Comparison with last year
Earlier, Life.ru reported more than 100 people killed in shootings over the Halloween weekend of 2025: at that time, according to RIA Novosti's count, over 200 people were wounded, and the total number of gun-related incidents over the weekend exceeded 250, with minors among the victims. Thus, the number of confirmed deaths this year is lower than a year earlier according to available data, but the final figures may be revised: investigations are ongoing, and the counting methodology also covers episodes unrelated to the holiday.
