A desk named after Hero of Russia to appear in a school in the DPR
A desk named after Hero of Russia General Anton Grunis will soon be installed in one of the educational institutions of the Donetsk People's Republic. The republic's head Denis Pushilin announced this in an interview with TASS. 'The Hero's desk will appear in one of our educational institutions in the near future,' Life.ru quotes him as saying.
The commander's combat path
According to the publication, Grunis led units in repelling an attempt by the Ukrainian Armed Forces to break through near Artemovsk in 2023, and later took part in the battles for Chasov Yar and Kostyantynivka. He was also awarded the title of Hero of the Donetsk People's Republic.
May 2023 and the death
The outlet notes that Grunis played a special role in May 2023: after the death of the commander of the 4th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade, Vyacheslav Makarov, he took over command of the unit and for several days coordinated the defense, halting the enemy's offensive in the Klishchiivka area and holding the positions. According to Life.ru, the commander's courage received high praise from Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The award and the news of his death
On August 28, 2026, Anton Grunis was awarded the title of Hero of Russia, and a few weeks later, in September, the commander of the Akhmat special forces, Lieutenant General Apti Alaudinov, announced his death. The memory of the general who led the defense on the Artemovsk direction has been decided to be preserved for future generations — including through the Hero's desk, a practice that exists in Russian schools.
