The key facts

  • Milan beat Inter 3:1 and extended their unbeaten derby run to eight matches
  • Diogo Moreira — two assists and a free-kick goal; Pulisic signed a five-year contract extension
  • Roma, after a 5:2 win over Udinese, sit one point behind Inter and Lazio

The derby that restored Milan's confidence

Milan handed Inter their first defeat of the current season, winning the derby 3:1. Christian Pulisic and Adrien Rabiot scored within the first ten minutes, Alessandro Bastoni reduced the deficit, and two minutes before halftime Diogo Moreira restored the two-goal lead with a free kick into the top corner. The win was a response to Milan's first league defeat — midweek the team lost at home to Bologna.

Moreira — the main hero

The Belgian Diogo Moreira was involved in all three goals: first he crossed for Pulisic's assist, then delivered a corner to set up Rabiot's shot, and finished the evening with an accurate free kick. Pulisic scored with his head in the fourth minute — in the same week the American signed a five-year contract with the club. After Bastoni's goal, Inter controlled the game, but Mike Maignan saved shots from Hakan Calhanoglu and Jed Spence, and a penalty awarded in Inter's favour for handball was overturned after a VAR review.

The coach and the standings

Ruben Amorim, speaking to DAZN after the match, noted the derby atmosphere: “The passion is nothing like any derby I have ever played in,” and added that the fans “have started to believe in the project a little more.” The win extended Milan's unbeaten run in this fixture to eight matches and lifted the team to fourth place — four points behind Inter and Lazio, who lead the table. The match was played at the century-old Giuseppe Meazza stadium, two days after both clubs announced plans to move to a new stadium in 2031.

Roma one point behind the leaders

Gian Piero Gasperini's Roma remain the only unbeaten team: away they thrashed Udinese 5:2, scoring four goals in the first half — Brian Cristante, Rodrigo Mora, Donyell Malen and Evan Ndicka all got on the scoresheet. For the hosts, Nicolò Zaniolo played against his former club, but after eight matches without a win Udinese remain 19th with five points. Roma, with 24 points, are third, one point behind Inter and Lazio, who host Cagliari and Verona on Sunday and could pull away. Earlier, Bologna beat Monza 2:1 and moved up to eighth place, while the league's top scorer Gustavo Varela took his goal tally to nine.
